The Auburn State Recreation Area Canyon Keepers meeting in April will feature “American River Canyon Views,” a presentation by photographer Gary Hughes.
Photographer Hughes started taking pictures in the Navy in the 1960’s, where he bought his first camera, a Nikormat, in Japan. Today he particularly enjoys documenting everything about the American River Canyon, and has had unique opportunities to photograph not only the natural beauty, but special events, such as Hawver Cave/Mine and the 100th Anniversary of the Mountain Quarries Railroad. He has also re-enacted historic photos for use by the park, significant to the location of historic places such as mining camps on the Middle Fork of the American River.
Hughes’ fine photography will also be featured in the Auburn City Hall Gallery during the Auburn Art Walk on April 11, 6 to 9 p.m.
Hughes will share his photos in the Canyon View Community Center during the meeting which begins at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2. The community center is located at 471 Maidu Drive in Auburn. Light refreshments are served beginning at 5:45 p.m.
