National Emergency Dispatcher’s Week Continues

We continue to celebrate National Emergency dispatcher’s week with a look at Monday’s tragedy in Boston. During an emergency, regional cell phone service can quickly become overwhelmed and ineffective. Operations Manager of the Nevada County Office of Emergency services Vic Ferrera says there is an alternative to a cell call.

Text messages are far more likely to remain effective despite a crash in the network due to the smaller “data packets” they require.

Mr. Ferrera also says unlike a call that may only give you a busy signal, a text message may not go immediately in an emergency but will be sent eventually.
