A great event last night at Placer High School in Auburn. One Book One Community; the community event to inspire reading, features the New York Times Best Seller Nature Noir written by Jordan Fisher Smith, the retired Auburn State Recreation Area Ranger. Bart O’Brien, president of the Auburn Rotary opened the evening introducing the panel assembled to discuss the Janet Kovacich murder investigation featured in the book that led to the arrest and conviction for murder, of Janet’s husband Paul, a Placer County Sheriff’s Deputy. The panel included, principle investigator Jerry Johnson, retired Auburn Police Chief Valerie Harris, prosecutor Dave Tellman from Placer County District Attorney’s Office, and the Author Jordan Fisher Smith. Radio and TV personality Beth Ruyak, facilitated the 2-hour discussion, bringing the book to life with the people who worked on the case, who put the clues together to make the arrest of Paul Kovacich. The next One Book One Community event is Saturday with a hike into the American River Canyon to the area where the Auburn Dam was to be built and where much of the book is set.
