Parent and runner Tony Overbay is again going to run around the Glen Edwards Middle School (GEMS) and track at Lincoln High School for 24-hours to help raise funds for the school and to encourage students, and their families to get out and exercise.
Last year Overbay began running on the track on Friday at the start of school, and finished up 122 miles, and 24-hours later.
A community event will be held at the Lincoln High School track on Friday night, complete with food, music, booths featuring crafts and sweets, and an inflatable obstacle course for the kids. And Overbay will be running.
ll proceeds of the run, benefit Glen Edwards Middle School. The first year of the run, Overbay was able to raise enough money to save the sports program at the school. Last year’s run again paid for sports, and to afford additional computers, music equipment and a variety of other items that the school budget was unable to cover.
The 5k starts at 9 AM on Saturday, April 27th with a kid’s free quarter mile fun run to begin at 8:30 AM. People can sign up for the 5k by visiting www.gems5k.com
The kid’s fun run is free; the 5k cost is $25 for adults, $20 for age 17 and under. The race features a chip timing system and there are prizes for the top finishers in several age divisions. The community event will be held from 5 – 9 PM on Friday night, April 26th at the Lincoln High School track.
