Tuesday May 7th at 8pm is the deadline to have your Higgins Fire Measure O mail-in ballots returned to the Nevada County elections office for your vote to be counted on Measure O. Elise Strickland a Senior Clerk Recorder assistant says we have only returned a little over 2 thousand of the 65 hundred ballots mailed out.
Measure O’s purpose of reopening closed District fire stations and/or funding emergency medical services, fire suppression, rescue, and other emergency services provided by the District, with all funds staying in our community. A special property tax will be imposed on taxable real property within the District as established for a period of 10 years and beginning with the 2013-2014 fiscal year, and without any increases to the tax rate during this period.
Strickland says you still have time to drop off your ballots at the Elections Office on Maidu Drive in Nevada City.
The results will be posted around 8:30 pm on Tuesday May 7th on the elections web site you can also find preliminary results on our KAHI facebook page.
