BOS Approves Phased-in Jail Opening

The Placer County Board of Supervisors approved Placer County Sheriff Ed Bonner’s request for a phased-in opening of the new South County Jail. Sheriff Bonner opened with props, an “easy button” that got a laugh form the Board and audience.

 Sheriff Bonner introduced Captain Woo who has spearheaded the jail transition team. Captain Woo shared the concerns the department has with the dilapidated facilities at the DeWitt Center. After the Board’s unanimous approval, Captain Woo says the transition to the new facilities will relieve potential crowding issues with the influx of re-alignment prisoners coming to our county jail from the state .

Captain Woo shared a recent problem at the existing jail in Auburn, stating that the showers failed causing 123 male inmates to share 3 shower heads for 2 months.  With the board’s approval Captain Woo says they will begin phasing into the new facilities early next year.
