Measure O Defeated by 27-Votes

South Nevada County residents in the Higgins Fire District said no again to a new fire tax. Measure O required a 2/3 vote to pass. The measure to reopen closed District fire stations and/or fund emergency medical services, fire suppression, rescue, and other emergency services provided by t he District, failed by 27-votes. Measure O received 65.64% or 1,882 YES votes and only 34.36% or 985 NO votes, but still not enough to pass. Higgins Fire Chief Jerry Goode said he will do the best he can with the resources they have.

 2, 867 Votes were cast. Chief Goode says the district will continue to rotate closures between the 3 stations. The Lake of the Pines station has not been closed so far but says with the potential for a very active fire season, the station on the corner of 49 and Combie could also see rotating closures, increasing response times into the Lake of the Pines community.
