On May 10, 2013 at 9 in the morning, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the Reno Police Department requesting assistance in locating a missing female adult. The missing female was described as a 66 year old, white female named Sherilyn Renstrom, who has dementia.
The missing female’s vehicle had been found near U.S. Highway 50 in the unincorporated area of El Dorado county, east of Strawberry. A law enforcement officer from the United States Forest Service located the vehicle, checked the license plate, and discovered that it belonged to the missing female. The United States Forest Service then notified the Reno Police Department.
Deputies from the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the Strawberry location and began a search for the missing female. A command post was set up at the fire station in Strawberry. In total over fifty search and rescue volunteers arrived to assist in the search. Sheriff’s Office search and rescue volunteers from both the South Lake Tahoe office and the Placerville office responded to the search. Volunteers from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in Nevada also assisted. Volunteer search dog handlers were used in the search.
In close proximity to the vehicle a deceased female was located. The identity of the female cannot be confirmed. The Coroner’s Division of the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of death and the identity of the female.
