Driver in Tuesday’s Fatal Crash Near Soda Springs Identified

Tuesday afternoon CHP dispatchers in the Truckee area began to get calls regarding a reckless driver, passing cars on the shoulders from I-80 eastbound at Dutch Flat. CHP Gold Run responded and found a 1989 BMW convertible at a high rate of speed and using the construction closure to pass vehicle. The CHP Officer turned on his lights an siren to stop the vehicle at which time the suspect vehicle did not yield but accelerated to over 100 miles per hour. The pursuit continued eastbound into the Truckee CHP area where a 2nd officer entered the pursuit Eastbound over Donner Summit. The BMW exited at Donner Pass Rd, drove over the over crossing and re entered I-80 west bound. Officer Pete Mann with the Truckee CHP office says the suspect then drove into the construction zone.

The drivers of the BMW was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The conservation workers, Linda Heuangpaseu  age 23 of Fresno was Life-lighted to Renown hospital with a head injury and Jose Garcia age 19 also from Fresno was taken to Truckee Tahoe Forest Hospital with a complaint of pain to the shoulder. Officer Mann has been checking on the well being of the 2 conservation workers.

The Driver has been identified as 55 year old William Orr of Penn Valley.
