National Police Week
Placer County Sheriff Ed Bonner took a moment during last Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting to acknowledge Officers killed in the line of duty, and one Placer County Sheriff who had not been acknowledged on the state memorial until now.
On Wednesday, May 15, Peace Officers’ Memorial Day, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office attended the remembrance of the 19,660 law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty in this nation’s history by lowering its flags. This year, 127 peace officers’ names will be added to the Memorial.
In 1962, President John Kennedy designated May 15 as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day. The calendar week in which May 15 falls is National Police Week, with this year’s commemoration on May 12-18.
