Auburn Airport was the scene of a fatal plane crash Saturday night. Reports are that a commercial airliner in the area Saturday night picked up a distress signal from a private plane around 9 pm. The crash site was discovered around 12:30 Sunday morning.
Craig McCardle Division Chief with Auburn Fire made it to the crash scene and did see at least one body, believed to be the male pilot.
Division Chief McCardle says the plane was coming from Susanville when it crashed into the thick trees and brush. Cal-fire brought in a line crew to cut a line for response vehicles to get into the site to investigate and remove the bodys and wreckage from the scene. National Transportation Safety Board Investigators were collecting information via a helicopter above the crash site as well as on the ground with Placer County Sheriff and Auburn Police Department.
The identities of the occupants nor the actual distress call have been released. The investigation continues.
