National Trails Day Event Needs Volunteers

The Forest Service will be celebrating the out-of-doors during the National Trails Day event in June.  On Saturday, June 1, in conjunction with the Bear Yuba Land Trust and many other trails/outdoor recreation organizations, the Forest Service will be hosting an information booth in downtown Nevada City from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm.  Various recreation and trail guides will be available and the Forest Service will be on hand to highlight the many recreation opportunities in the Tahoe National Forest.

On Sunday, June 2, volunteers are needed during the morning to help maintain the Pioneer Trail which extends along Highway 20, east of Nevada City to Bear Valley.  Trail volunteers should meet at the Alpha Omega Rest Stop on Highway 20 at 9:00.   Volunteers will be removing debris off the trail, shaping the trail tread and removing brush along the edge of the trail.  Volunteers should plan on fairly heavy physical work and will need to sign a volunteer agreement at the beginning of the morning.  If you are interested in signing up to assist on Sunday, June 2, please contact Joe Chaves – 530-478-6158.
