Proposition 84 Grant Fund Report Released

The state has released a report of Proposition 84 grant funds. More than 60% of the state’s developed water supply originates in the Sierra Nevada Region, and up to half of the water flowing into the Delta starts its journey in the Sierra’s forested watersheds.

Over the past six years the Sierra Nevada Conservancy has awarded over $50 million through the Proposition 84 Grant Program, investing in projects that directly improve watershed health, water quality, and community health for the betterment of the people of California. Sierra Nevada Conservancy Public Information Officer Pete Defour says several successful projects in Placer, Nevada and El Dorado Counties have been completed thanks to the grant funding.

Another project is Fish Friendly Farming said to provide an incentive-based method for creating and sustaining environmental quality and habitat on private land.

Landowners and managers enroll in the program, learn environmentally beneficial management practices and carry out ecological restoration projects. The focus is on the land manager as the central figure in achieving and sustaining environmental quality. This approach ensures long-term environmental improvements, sustainable agriculture and implements the principles of state and federal environmental regulations.
