Nevada County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man for assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment and other charges Wednesday. On Monday June 3, around mid-day, the Nevada County Sheriff Dispatch Center received a medical call regarding an assault from a home on Idaho Maryland Road. Deputies arrived and found the victim, who was later transported to the hospital for his injuries. According to the victim and a witness, the victim had been assaulted with a weapon and tied up by the suspect in an attempt to rob the victim. The suspect was identified as 32 year old John Grimes.
A countywide “Be on the Look Out” for Grimes was issued and local law enforcement began actively looking for Grimes. On Wednesday June 5, the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office obtained information that Grimes was staying at the Holiday Lodge in Grass Valley. Nevada County Sheriff’s deputies along with Grass Valley Police officers set up surveillance on the hotel. When Grimes exited one of the hotel rooms, he was taken into custody without incident.
Grimes is currently in custody at the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility facing charges including assault with a deadly weapon, robbery in the 2nd degree, residential burglary, false imprisonment and forcibly taking victim to another location with intent to rob.
