Granite Bay Sailor Receives Prestigious Award

Intelligence Specialist 1st Class Michael Heinz of Granite Bay, became the first ever recipient from U.S. Pacific Command’s Joint Intelligences Operations Center to receive the “Naval Intelligence Professionals” award and was ranked in the top five of 120 peers from among all Armed Forces at Joint Intelligences Operations Center.

In a News release from the Navy Heinz said “I am shocked and honored to receive this award but it’s not just my award, it’s the command’s award,” said Heinz. “If it wasn’t for the leadership and mentors in the command granting Sailors opportunities to learn and set up for success, this award would not have been possible for me.” 

Placer County Supervisor Kirk Uhler whose district includes Granite Bay says the county is proud of Heinz accomplishment.

The NIP of the Year Award honors Intelligent Specialist sailors with technical expertise, leadership, key asset to mission readiness and contributions to the welfare of their command. Each year, four recipients are selected, a junior and a senior Intelligence Specialists assigned to both an operational command afloat and shore based command.
