Unsafe Speeds and No Seat Belt Led to Truckee Fatality

Unsafe Speeds and not wearing a seat belt led to a fatality in Truckee Tuesday. Around 6 in the evening the California Highway Patrol was went to a call of a rollover accident on Sierra County Road 860 just west of Stampede Meadows, in Sierra County. Corey Adam Neill age 18 of Truckee drove his ‘95 Chevrolet pickup at a speed that was unsafe for the condition of the dirt/gravel roadway.   As Neill navigated his way through the curves he encountered numerous rocks protruding through the dirt roadway surface.  Due to Neills Speed on the rough roadway, he lost control of his vehicle.  The vehicle’s rear tires began to slide to the right, causing the vehicle to rotate across the roadway and impacting a drainage ditch and causing the vehicle to overturn.  As the vehicle overturned the passenger 18 year old Andrew Metlenko of Reno who was not wearing a seatbelt was ejected from the vehicle, causing him to sustain fatal injuries.  Metlenko was pronounced deceased at the scene by Cal-Fire personnel.  Alcohol was not a contributing factor to the collision.
