Cal-Fire Planes in the Air Thursday

Residents in Grass Valley may see and hear an increase in air plane traffic coming from the Cal-Fire Air Attack base on Loma Rica road at the air port where the planes are stationed but there is no fire emergency at this time. The cal-Fire annual Aviation Operational Briefing is to be held at the Grass Valley Air Attack Base at the Nevada County Airport.

This important meeting gathers cooperating aircraft who may operate together on wildland fires and other emergency incidents in and around the Sacramento area and Sierra Nevada foothills.

Aircraft include; CAL FIRE Air Attack 230, Tanker 88 and Tanker 89, California Highway Patrol helicopter H-24, CalSTAR 3, REACH 7, Sac Metro Copter 1, Tahoe National Forest Copter 514.

There will also be a number of CAL FIRE engines from areas such as Smartsville, Nevada City, Higgins and Columbia Hill as well as some engines from the local cooperators, along with the pilot of KCRA Channel 3’s news copter.

Aircraft will be flying in beginning at 10:00am and should finish up by noon.
