Western States 100-mile Endurance Run Today

Runners started out at 5am for the 40th annual Western States Endurance run from Squaw Valley to Auburn, CA. Gordy Ainsleigh, founder of the race 40 years ago started off with the runners this morning. The finish line is on the track at Placer High School in Auburn where the first finishers are expected around 8:30 pm, finishing the 100 mile course in 16 hours. Finish Line Manager Renda Gale was at the track bright and early Saturday setting up the finish line area.

Gale says it’s a party atmosphere with the first runners hanging around watching others come in and cheering their finish throughout the evening.

The awards ceremony for top finishers will be held at the Placer football field on Sunday at noon.
