Car Versus Power Pole Near LOP

A car sheared off a power pole on Combie Road near Lake of the Pines Tuesday morning cutting power to almost 100 residents during this week’s heat wave.

Grass Valley CHP Officer Mark Morrison says the driver, for unknown reasons, lost control of his vehicle.

The driver, 28 year old Drake Wuerts of Lake of the Pines had an initial complaint of pain but refused treatment.

Higgins Fire Department has opened fire gates for a detour while PG&E replaced the pole that blocked traffic for several hours.

Jana Morris with PG&E says crews were stretched Tuesday morning as they responded to a similar car versus power pole where a car with a father and son struck a power pole.

The 6-year old son in that accident suffered a broken collar bone according the Grass valley CHP Office.
