Pouring rain at higher elevations caused a mud slide near the California Nevada Border closing Interstate 80 for several hours as crews removed the watery mess the size of a football field from the roadway. Rochelle Jenkins with Cal-Trans says a mud slide following torrential rain is not unusual.
Rochelle says there is no way to prepare for such an event. Cal-Trans says crews will continue the clean-up work Wednesday and will remain in the area through this weather system.
No vehicles were trapped in the slide and no injuries were reported.
