Fire in Kyburz

At this time there is a wildfire in the Kyburz area. Hwy 50 is closed between Pollock Pines and Meyers so that emergency vehicles may respond to the area. No structures threatened at this time.

Eastbound traffic is being held at Sly Park Road in Pollock Pines and westbound traffic is being held in the town of Meyers, just west of South Lake Tahoe, Caltrans said in a news release.

There is no estimated time for reopening.

The fire started about 12:41 p.m. in an area between White Hall and Kyburz. It has burned more than 20 acres.

Crews have shut off power in communities along Highway 50 from White Hall to Twin Bridges Camp.

The fire — which the CHP said may have started when a vehicle blew a tire, according to Caltrans — is spreading east.

No detours are in place.
