The City of Lincoln hopes it will get what it pays for by offering $160 thousand dollars for the right person to be their next Police Chief. The city of around 35 thousand people has not had a full-time police Chief since 2006. They have made due with temporary retired annuitants or a long term Lieutenant as an acting Chief. Jill Thompson the Public Information Officer for the city of Lincoln says they have established the annual salary based on larger cities down the hill where they hope to draw candidates from.
Thompson says the new Chief will have their share of challenges.
As a comparison, Grass Valley Police Chief John Foster is listed as making just under $145 thousand dollars a year according to California State Controller John Chiang’s web site. Auburn’s Police Chief John Ruffcorn is listed with less than $119 thousand annually. Auburn’s Chief’s total compensation is $141, 000.
