Cause of American Fire Investigated

The U.S. Forest Service, Cal-Fire, Placer County Sheriff’s Office, The Placer County Air Quality Control Office and others held an information meeting Monday night in Foresthill to update the public on the plan for containing the American Fire. When questioned about the possible cause of the fire, Tahoe National Forest Supervisor Tom Quinn told the crowd of 200, that 2 men had been questioned Saturday August 10th, the day the fire started.

Quinn says the pair did get a ride.

Investigators are considering all possibilities but Quinn does not believe lightening was the cause.

Rocky Oplinger, the incident commander told the crowd that they hope to have full containment of the fire on September 1st. The fire has burned 15 thousand acres and is 54% contained.
