Tuesday’s Board of Supervisor’s meeting kicked off with a celebration. Gary and Shawnie Machado of Machado Orchards received a commendation from the Board celebrating 90 years in business in Placer County. Shawnie says it all began when Gary’s grandfather bought a pear orchard all those years ago.
And what do you do with all those apples but make Pie. Beginning in the 1980’s Shawnie says they started offering pies for sale. The recipe came from Gary’s mom Bobbie. Now Machado Orchards turned out hundreds and even thousands of pies.
Machado Orchards is picking apples now. You can pick up a pie or fresh fruit and other sundries from their retail outlet off I-80 and the Bowman exit on Apple Lane in Auburn. And look for the 3rd annual Machado Orchard’s apple festival coming this fall.
