Residents throughout the region noticed ash from the many fires covering their car windshields Thursday morning. Fire managers say the ash may be coming from fires to the south as well as the American Fire.
Peter Franzen Public Information Officer on the American Fire says efforts to contain the fire along the more difficult steep and hazardous terrain on the south and south-east perimeters continues with crews using direct fire attack methods where possible.
The fire is established in Antoine, Manilla and Scewrauger Canyons and below the Barny Cavanah Ridge. Consumption of heavy fuels will continue to contribute to smoke in surrounding areas.
The fire has burned 16,812 acres and is 60% contained with an estimated full containment date of September first.
