Empire Fire in Georgetown

Nearly 100 homes were evacuated Saturday as a 38-acre grass fire threatened homes in Georgetown.

The Empire Fire, started around 3 p.m. near Empire Creek Circle, according to Cal Fire Public Information Officer Daniel Berlant.

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department conducted the evacuations and closed Greenwood Road to the public for resources to get to the fire.

The fire destroyed one home and an outbuilding. No injuries were reported.

Berlant said crews jumped on the fire quickly, limiting spread.
