The controversial Cal-Fire Fee bills are in the mail. This is the 2nd year the fee has been levied on property owners in the state. 2 years ago 50 million dollars were taken from the Cal-Fire budget and put into the state’s general fund to shore up deficits in a down economy. The Governor instituted the fee to supplement the Cal-Fire budget.
The annual assessment Imposes an annual $150 fire prevention fee on structures located in the State Responsibility Areas (SRA); requires fee revenues to be available to the Board of Forestry (Board) and California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF), for fire prevention and protection activities in SRAs. Nevada County District 2 Supervisor Ed Scofield encourages property owners to pay the bill even if under protest.
