Gold Run CHP stopped a dangerous driver on Interstate 80 Wednesday. On September 11th at approximately 8:20 PM, an Auburn CHP Officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a white Honda CRX for exceeding the speed limit on I-80 eastbound near Applegate. The Officer was able to stop the vehicle near Canyon Way in Colfax. As the officer exited his patrol vehicle and approached the vehicle, the vehicle rapidly accelerated away and turned off the headlights. Auburn CHP began pursuing the vehicle into the Gold Run CHP Area. The pursuit continued eastbound on I-80 with the suspect traveling at high speeds and in a reckless manner. The vehicle was able avoid two spike strip by driving around the spikes. Gold Run CHP Officers took over the pursuit. Lt. Williams of the Gold Run CHP Office says the suspect left the freeway at Blue Canyon Road and slowed.
This caused the Honda to slide off the roadway edge, where it stalled on the shoulder. A felony stop was initiated. Both the driver and passenger complied and were taken into custody without further incident.
The driver was identified, as Oskar Loeza age 19 of Nevada. The passenger was identified as Estefany Andrea Lucero-Maldonado.
