Another State Mandate is affecting communities in South Nevada County. The County is mandated to designate properties as approved for High Density housing, including 3 areas in unincorporated Nevada County generally defined as the Grass Valley Sphere of Influence, Penn Valley, and the Lake of the Pines Areas.
The Nevada County Planning Department held 3 Community Informational Meetings to answer questions about the Nevada County Housing element project. the best attended of these with 200 showing up, was in Penn Valley Where Chamber Of Commerce President Mike Mastrodonato says the county’s plan will hurt Penn Valley and especially the commercial area in the center of town.
Mastrodonato asks Penn Valley Residents to write letters to the Planning Department to save their community.
The Zoning Designation for the 18 selected properties to Urban High Density/high density residential zoning and adding the Regional Housing Need Combining District is to accommodate the future development of high density housing, as mandated by the State Department of Housing and Community Development.
