The Placerville Police Department is proud to announce that the City of Placerville ranked first place nationwide for National Night Out (NNO) 2013 festivities.
The Placerville Police Department was notified Thursday of achieving first place in the State of California and first place in the entire United States for a city with under 15,000 in population for the coordinated effort between the department and community for the August 6th National Night Out activities.
National Night Out is designed to: heighten crime and drug awareness, generate support for local anti-crime programs such as Neighborhood Watch, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Placerville Police Chief Heller said there were many people that made this event successful.
As part of NNO, the Police Department organized Project 365, identifying Benham Park as an area within the City that needed to be freed of the criminal element. Since the inception of Project 365, there has been a significant drop in crime and calls for service at the park.
The Placerville Police Department looks forward to next year’s National Night Out festivities. Anyone who would like to volunteer and help with our efforts to defend our NNO Cup and #1 ranking in the nation, please contact Sgt. Dan Maciel at (530) 642-5280.
