California State Controller John Chiang has updated his public employee compensation website with the latest wage and benefit data for California City and County employees.Jacob Roper with the Controller’s Office explains how to use the site publicpay.ca.gov.
The site – publicpay.ca.gov – offers maps, search functions, and custom report-building tools. It also allows users to download raw data for their own research. Roper says it’s about greater transparency in government.
Governments in Placer County are cooperating with Controller Chiang and disclosing pay for all positions, without naming the employees associated with the pay.
Topping the list of pay in 2012 are 74 Roseville employees who made $150,000 or more, including 44 employees of the Fire Department. Other departments with significant numbers making $150,000 or more include employees of Roseville Electric and Environmental Utilities, as well as the City Manager and Assistant City Manager.
The next highest comes from Placer County itself, with 68 employees making $150,000 or more, including 24 employees of the Sheriff’s Department.
Rocklin had 6 employees making more than $150,000, including the City Manager, City Attorney, Police Chief, Fire Chief and Director of Administrative Services.
Lincoln had three people in the over $150,000 range, while Auburn had two and Loomis and Colfax each had none.
The update adds wage and benefit data for 637,435 positions, with more than $38.86 billion in wages paid in 2012. To view your city, visit publicpay.ca.gov.
