Van with 7 Bursts into Flame one Perishes in Gold Run Area

A fatal injury accident has occurred off West bound Interstate 80 beginning at the Gold Run exit. Shortly after 4pm Sunday CHP dispatch began receiving calls from an elderly driver saying they were having car trouble possibly brake fade. 7 passengers were in the Ford Astro Van, all over the age of 70, believed to be returning from Reno. The van took the Gold Run exit and side swiped a silver VW Getta at approximately 50 miles an hour that was at the bottom of the exit making a u-turn. The Van took a logging road continuing at a high rate of speed. At some point the van burst into flames. 6 of the 7 occupants exited the van with minor to moderate injuries. 1 unidentified female occupant was unable to escape and perished in the fire. 1 occupant was life flighted to Mercy San Juan and another was life flighted to Roseville. The 4 remaining were sent by ground ambulance to an area hospitals. No names have been released at this time. I-80 is open in both directions and was not effected by the incident. Gold Run CHP Is investigating.
