Saving the Dewitt Theater

On the property where the parking lot for the proposed Coscto project would be built is the historic DeWitt Theater tentatively scheduled to be demolished.
Michael and Kay Coder have been giving music lessons and hosting stage shows in the historic theater since 1998 as the Music and More Arts Academy. Prior to the Academy the theater had a rich legacy dating back to World War 2. Michael Coder a local school principle and school teacher for 30 years says Bob Hope brought his USO Show to the theater to play for the wounded soldiers recovering in Auburn.

Mr. Coder says he was surprised to hear at the recent North Auburn MAC meeting this week that the theater along with all the buildings at the Dewitt Center were slated for destruction according to the county’s master plan.
