The Gold Run CHP has responded to 2 separate incidents of bodies found in cars along the road side in the Sierras within the past week. The first was on Thursday the 16th. The Gold Run CHP Office was contacted regarding a man believed to be deceased in his car at the rest top in the Gold run area. CHP Officer Chris Nave says the cause of death is unknown but talking with the rest stop attendant they were told the man had been in the area for a few days. The attendant said the man claimed to be from the Reno area and was looking for work. He said he checked on him again Wednesday and the man appeared to be asleep in his car.
On Thursday morning the attendant recognized the same car and the man inside and he tried to wake him but he was unresponsive. This is when the attendant called the CHP. The man was deceased and has now been identified by the Placer County coroner as 46 year old Ward Chaffer of Reno. On Tuesday another man was found deceased in his car on Morton Road not far from the Cal-Fire station off the Alta Exit of Interstate 80. Officer Nave with GOLD Run CHP says there is no sign of foul play in either incident and the incident appear to be unrelated. The 2nd man has been identified as 69 year old James Nelson of Meridian Idaho.
