This Friday is Ag Day in Placer County and the Placer County Farm Bureau, Echo Valley Ranch, and the Placer Resource Conservation District (RCD) are hosting an “Ag Day” educational event at Placer Elementary School in Loomis.
The event is being held in conjunction with National Ag Week, a nationwide effort to teach students about their food, fiber, and environment. This is the first year Ag Day is being held in Placer County, and the hosting organizations hope to grow it to eventually include all schools in the county.
On March 28th the 500 Kindergarten through 8th grade students at Placer Elementary will rotate through stations that will each include a 15-minute presentation on an agricultural or natural resources topic, such as mandarins, bees, wildlife, forestry, and livestock. Connie Watson from Echo Valley shares some of the high lights students can expect.
Each student will also receive a PlacerGROWN bag with educational materials and take-home agricultural products such as honey and a tree seedling. Teachers at the school will each receive curriculum and classroom activity sets to go along with the Friday’s Ag Day events.
