Amgen Tour of California in Auburn May 11th

The Amgen Tour of California is a Tour de France-style cycling road race created and presented by AEG that challenges the world’s top professional cycling teams to compete along a demanding course that traverses hundreds of miles of California’s iconic highways, byways and coastlines each spring. The teams chosen to participate have included Olympic medalists, Tour de France contenders and World Champions.

This year, the First Stage of the Amgen Tour of California will begin and finish at the steps of the State Capital in Sacramento. As the route heads north out of the city, it will hug the east bank of the Sacramento River. After passing through Pleasant Grove and Lincoln, the racers will head into one of the race’s favorite towns…Auburn.  It will proceed through the city of Auburn and head down Hwy 49 to the American River, through the town of Cool, and then head west to finish in Sacramento.  Auburn Piolice lt. Victor Pecoraro has a description of the route on race day.
