The BIG Day of Giving on May 6th was truly historical for our community. Ilene Speaker with the Placer community Foundation has the numbers.
Non-profits raised thousands of dollars but one particular Land Trust was a stand out.
This total was the highest of any participating organization in Placer County and the second highest of all participating organizations in the four-county region.
The rest of the Placer County top 5 earners included Sierra Forever Families, Placer SPCA, Acres of Hope, and Courage Worldwide. Sierra Forever Families won the $2,000 prize sponsored by First 5 Placer for most money raised by a family and children serving organization. They raised a total of $40,133 to support their mission of finding and nurturing permanent families for children living in foster care. Placer SPCA also had a highly successful campaign, raising $20,990 from 193 gifts.
The Big Day of Giving began in Placer County with a kick-off event at Westfield Galleria at Roseville where 38 Placer organizations gathered for a nonprofit fair. Attendees were able to donate at the event and enjoyed live entertainment from Rocklin Community Theatre, Sierra Native Alliance, Auburn Hip Hop Congress, and A Touch of Understanding. The BIG DoG mascot took photos with participants as well.
In addition to raising funds, the day was important because it brought new awareness to the nonprofit sector and the missions of 78 organizations. Speakers says the giving continues throughout the year but the non-profits have to keep the momentum going.
