Fire broke-out on a single wide mobile home on Hillcrest Drive in Newcastle on Sunday at around 2:30 p.m.
According to residents living in Castle City Mobile Home Park, the initial 911 call to dispatch was placed and Newcastle Fire responded to a report of smoke coming from a structure in the park. After a search of the residence, and no evidence of fire or smoke, the Newcastle fire truck withdrew from the call and headed back to the station.
Approximately ½ hour later, park resident John Harris witnessed flames and smoke coming out of the mobile home. He then called 911 and reported for a second time that the same structure was on fire.
The fire spread from the home to some adjacent vegetation which was also put out by firefighters. The mobile home park is adjacent to I-80 with heavy brush surrounding it. Multiple agencies were called out including Newcastle, Auburn Fire, Penryn Fire, Cal Fire, Lincoln Fire, and Loomis Fire which all responded to the structure blaze.
A plume of smoke could be seen from Auburn and down towards Roseville. The mobile home is a total loss but the resident did get out safely.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
