Aub PD Car 1

Placer County law enforcement wants you to be safe and smart.

Auburn Police and Local Law Enforcement will be out in numbers this holiday weekend looking for drunk drivers and also keeping people safe on the road during the Placer County Avoid the 7 Task Force.

The July 4th holiday is a favorite time of year for many Americans, and with that holiday comes backyard parties, good food, and fireworks. But the celebrating unfortunately turns deadly when people drive after drinking alcohol. Drunk driving is a preventable problem on the Fourth of July each year in the United States.

Some good precautions to take to help plan ahead of your celebrations are.

  1. Plan a safe way home before the fun begins;
  2.  Before drinking, designate a sober driver;
  3. If you’re impaired, use a taxi, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation;
  4. If you happen to see a drunk driver on the road, don’t hesitate to call 9-1-1;
  5. If you know someone who is about to drive or ride while impaired, take their keys and help them make other arrangements to get to where they are going safely.

Sierra Cab is available for pickups 24 hours a day with two drivers working all shifts this holiday weekend.  The Auburn based cab company offers rides primarily in Auburn, but will pick up anyone needing rides to Auburn from surrounding areas for a charge.

AAA offers free tow to members with their Tipsy Tows pick-ups for cars and drivers also needing a ride.  The service will provide a one-way ride for the driver and vehicle to the driver’s home

In the United States, it is illegal to drive with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08%.

Nationally, over 1.2 million people were arrested for driving under the influence in 2013, that number included 57 individuals from Placer County.   Statistically, drivers are more likely to drive drunk after dark.

If you choose to drive drunk, you not only put your life and the lives of others at risk, you could also face a DUI arrest that carries the loss of your driver’s license and jail time.

Placer County Saturation Patrols Schedule for this weekend is as followed:

Beginning Thursday July 3rd thru Sunday July 6th, DUI Roving Saturation Patrols within Placer County.

On Saturday, July 5:  Multi-Agency Checkpoints from 8:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m with law enforcement checking for drunk drivers

Seven local law enforcement agencies make up the Avoid the 7 Task Force, including Auburn Police, CHP, and PCSO who will be upping their staffing levels for Independence Day festivities this upcoming weekend.
