Early Morning Big Rig Accident Blocks Lanes on Eastbound I-80

An early morning big rig accident caused a sig alert in Applegate.

The California Highway Patrol got the call  5:55  this morning that a big rig traveling eastbound in the #1 lane for unknown reasons swerved towards the left, hitting the concrete center divider, causing it to lose control and crash.

Whiteness reported seeing the semi-truck, traveling at an estimated speed of 57 miles per hour. Witnesses said the truck started to sway back and forth before it lost control and crashed just before the Heather Glen exit.

The container came detached from the rig and ended up approximately 75 yards away.

Two tow trucks lifted the truck upright for towing just before 8:00am.   Debris from the cab of the truck spilled onto the shoulder, but the container remained intact.

Traffic was being diverted off of I-80 Eastbound at Applegate Road and routed up the back roads to Heather Glen Road and then back onto I-80.

The accident blocked all eastbound lanes until about 9:04 when the sig alert was lifted by CHP.

The 45 year old driver was taken to Auburn Sutter Faith Hospital for minor injuries.
