A small brush fire in Auburn, dubbed Skyline by Cal Fire, quickly gained momentum when it started on Wednesday afternoon at 1:00. The three-acre blaze started on Old Airport Road off Bell Road on the backside of the Ridge Golf Course, and quickly spread up towards Skyline View Drive.
Residents living on Old Airport and Skyline, were told by Placer County Sheriff’s deputies they should be prepared to evacuate if necessary.
A quick response from Cal Fire air attack and ground crews kept the fire to a minimum with the help from Placer County Fire who’s hand crews helped put out the flames. Two Cal Fire Air Tankers dropped fire retardant ahead of the blaze and helped keep the fire from reaching homes while at the same time one Cal Fire helicopter dropped water where needed.
Residents Perry and Charlene Allen who have lived on Old Airport Road for 27-years, said this is the second time there has been a fire in the vicinity. The first fire was years ago, and was not as close to the couple’s home like Wednesday’s fire, had given them inspiration to grade their lot. Perry uses a tractor to cut down all excess dead brush that could help fuel any fire.
