On Monday afternoon, a man was arrested after allegedly steeling tools and a motorcycle from a residence on Mikkelsen Drive in Auburn.
The first call came in at 2:55pm reporting that Shane Wilson, 29, had crashed a motorcycle on the street, but left the scene before help could arrive. Not long after the first call came in, a second came in reporting a residential burglary in the 800 block also on Mikkelsen Drive.
Wilson allegedly robbed the house of tools and a helmet; he then stole a red Kawasaki sport-bike and drove down the street at a high rate of speed, running a stop sign at Swenson. Wilson then lost control of the bike where he crashed and slid down the hill on the pavement approximately 75 yards.
Resident Amilla Fillman was in her backyard when she heard the crash occur just outside her fence. She and her daughter went out to see what had happened, she reported she heard the suspect say “my spine, my spine.” The witnesses offered to call 911 for help, but Wilson took off heading towards the train tracks.
Auburn Police and Placer County Sheriff’s Officers created a parameter to search for Wilson. CHP air ops were also called out to help search for the injured suspect.
Officers were looking for a man wearing black pants, a black helmet, carrying a hammer and a knife with an apparent leg injury. Wilson was apprehended in the Sundowner Trailer parking lot on Russell Road.
Resident Tina Nelson said that she is not surprised the accident occurred right at that spot. Nelson said that drivers often run that same stop sign, and this time she was grateful that her kids were in the house, not out front where the crash initially occurred. Wilson’s motorcycle crash passed over right where the kids play each day according to Nelson
Wilson was booked into Placer County Jail on residential robbery and unlawful possession of a vehicle. It is not known yet if Wilson was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries.
