The Auburn Police Department is investigating a case of counterfeit 20-dollar bills being passed or attempted to be passed by students at Placer High School. Police say about 12 students have been identified so far in the case to date. The bogus bills have been passed at the cafeteria and some were attempted at 4 local business establishments in the City of Auburn. Police do not believe the students are involved in the production or making the bogus bills but getting them from someone outside of the school. Police are asking for help with anyone with any knowledge of the scam. A One report from Auburn Police investigators said: A “A young man at the high school apparently purchased replica money from the internet and then has been dispersing it at several local businesses in the area,” Police also said: A High School boy has passed the bogus bills out and sold them to his peers and added that more students are likely implicated in the use of these counterfeit bills. A through investigation is underway by Auburn Police, and could move to the US treasury since it involves US currency and is a federal crime.
