Gov. Newsom issued an emergency proclamation for Calaveras, El Dorado and Yolo counties yesterday giving these counties hel in handling mudslides, erosion, power outages and infrastructure damages. Other counties may qualify as the storm passes through today and tomorrow.
Parts of the Sacramento Valley received as much as 2 inches of rain over the last 24 hours, and communities like Roseville and Loomis recorded 2.80 inches. Several records were broken throughout the area yesterday. CHP and other Police agencies have been busy as several dozen accidents occurred on major and secondary roads as well as some city streets were blocked with local flooding. Winds are also being forecast until noon with expectation of 45 to 60 mile per hour gusts in some areas. Wind gusts were expected last night at 140 at peaks of the Sierra. Major snow is also expected at Donner Pass and Echo Summit with 5 to 10 feet expected. Highway 80 has been closed since yesterday at Colfax to the Nevada Line, and highway 50 has been open and closed as snow gets to avalanche potential. Trucks are piling up at off and on ramps as well as parking areas where they will ride out the storms. CHP is issuing warnings to watch out for the parked rigs, and are discouraging any Sierra travel until the systems passes which is expected Thursday and clean up crews can get the highways open.
