The City Council chambers in Lincoln overflowed on Tuesday Night as city residents expressed their disappointment at the results of the State Audit findings which were released last week. Several residents spoke to the council and there were demands that three of the sitting councilmen step down form their elected office. The two most targeted councilmen were current Mayor Paul Joiner and long-time councilman and former mayor Peter Gilbert. The two newest members of the council, Alyssa Silhi and Holly Andreatta also expressed concern and one requested public acknowledgment from the longer-serving council members that they could have done better. The meeting lasted for four hours. There has been one formal apology signed and read from all council members, and Mayor Joiner read a statement addressing the auditas concerns over his financial interests. In the statement, Joiner said he has been working with the Fair Political Practices Commission and that he expects the two items to be cleared up. Several residents made accusations that the council has been ignoring local issues for years and their lawsuit against the city and the state audit finally has the issues being addressed.
