Placer county supervisors this week approved a plan that will provide a new 90-million-plus-dollar office building in North Auburn. Construction could begin soon, and occupancy is planned within two years. The building is to house the county Health and Human Services facilities, followed by a Crime Lab and a Tahoe Justice Center which Is scheduled to break ground in 2025. The county plans to partly fund the project with reserves and developer fee revenue while issuing tax-free bonds worth $53.4 million. The county projects $91.8 million in total payments on the bonds. The county currently has $25.16 million in outstanding general fund debt. These new facilities will allow for consolidation of personnel and services to be consolidated. They now are spread all over the county in rented offices. The 30,000-square-foot crime lab is envisioned by the county to be operated under a partnership with the California State University system to streamline and improve investigations, prosecutions and resolution of crimes. It could also be used by the Cal State as a teaching facility.
