California Secretary of State Alex Padilla said Monday that supporters, who want to stop the approved gas tax and vehicle registration increases approved by the legislature last year, have collected enough valid signatures to qualify for the November ballot. The move was widely expected after organizers turned in far more signatures than required. This means that voters can stop this tax by voting in November.
Gov. Brown and California Democrats are warning voters that repeal will keep damaged highways and infrastructure will be left in a state of disrepair if they reverse this tax. Republicans believe it will help them keep control of seats they not have in the state legislature.
