Gov. Newsom signed Assembly Bill 5 yesterday in Sacramento, known as the aGiga bill which might change California economy and job status for ever. The bill will force companies to provide more benefits to more workers, and may eliminate the aContractora status that is used by major companies like ride share services like Uber and Lift. California Unions who have been strong supporters of the bill say thousands of California workers will now get protections like fair wages, compensation for injuries sustained while working and sick leave benefits. Many small business owners in the state say they may not survive this change due to the increase of costs this will force on them. The law will take effect January 1st and will give California enforcement agencies power to enforce business to comply. The Sub-contract status will still be available but with tougher certification.
