Officials in Sacramento County are sending a message of warning prospective renters looking for a house or an apartment to rent are being scammed by thieves that present in the internet a photo of a house or apartment, ask for a deposit and first month rent to hold it, and then the prospective renter never hears from them again. With the scarcity of rental property in the five county area the scammers are doing a land office business cheating people who are desperate to get a rental in the area. Police say this is not a new scam but using the internet is, and caution all prospective renters to knot get conned.
