Placer County Search and Rescue teams along with deputies and a deployed snow cat January 20th and responded to a 5 am call from a cell phone reporting that a local couple had become snowbound in the Sierra, near the China Wall recreation area, and were in serious trouble. Heavy snow fall had trapped the couple and their German Shepard dog inside their SUV where they stayed several hours trying to stay warm. One of the victims left the SUV and walked to an area where there was cell service and call 911 for help. The SAR team responded and began rescue. A deputy spotted a snowmobiler and ask him to help locate the female passenger who was still inside the stuck SUV. He did, and gave the woman a ride to deputies who then escorted her out and to a hospital where she was treated for hypothermia. Neither of the couple were properly dressed for the temperatures, did not have spare clothing or food accessories required for this type of situation which is everywhere in the Sierra.
